Twenty years ago, an American movie star met a British travel book shop owner in a charming neighborhood of London. They fell for each other, and it actually worked out, leading us all to believe we were just a meet-cute away from walking the red carpet with the love of our lives. Along with that ill-conceived notion, we also remember a bunch of “Notting Hill” trivia.
Julia Roberts was the queen of the romantic comedy in the ’90s, and Hugh Grant was its king. Well, maybe not king. Knight. Adorably awkward, floppy-haired, stammering knight. But whatever his weird mojo was, it worked!
See if you can recall some details from the film in this “Notting Hill” trivia mini quiz.
Questions:
- What color is the front door of Will Thacker’s flat in Notting Hill?
- Because (as we later learn) she owns the original, Anna is amazed to see a print of what artist’s “La Marieé” hanging in Will’s home?
- While Will is helping Anna learn lines for her latest action movie role, he suggests that she instead try her talents in an adaptation of what author’s work?
- When he inadvertently shows up to Anna’s hotel during a press junket and is mistaken for a journalist, Will tells her publicist that he’s a writer from what magazine?
- To Anna’s delight, what childlike phrase does Will blurt out when he falls while trying to climb the ivy-covered fence to sneak into the park?
Answers up after the outstanding seasons-changing tracking shot of Will walking through the Portobello Road. It’s not exactly the oner from “Atonement” or “Goodfellas,” but it’s always been a favorite of mine. Especially the pregnant lady at the start who turns up with her baby near the end. And any movie that uses “Ain’t No Sunshine” earns bonus points.
Answers:
- Blue
- Marc Chagall
