Mulan

New 'Mulan' is live-action Disney I can get behind

The trailer for the latest in the Disney live-action remake series, “Mulan,” dropped last week, and it looks fantastic. I’ve never been fully on board for these remakes of animated movies, but I think this one’s going to be awesome.

The animated Mulan came out in 1998, and it’s one of my favorites. Strong female character, good songs, and the action sequences are pretty boss.

He’s travel-size, for your convenience.

But there’s one main reason I’ll rewatch it over and over: Of all the Disney animated classic sidekicks, Mushu reigns supreme.

If there was an Oscar for vocal performance, it would have gone to Eddie Murphy that year: “Dishonor on you! Dishonor on your cow!”

Can’t wait to see the new “Mulan,” which comes out March 27, 2020. In the meantime, try your skills on this trivia set about the ’98 animated original.

  1. What name does Mulan give to the army when she’s masquerading as a man?
  2. Mulan’s father realizes that she has gone to the army conscription center in his place when he finds what instead of his armor in the cabinet?
  3. Before he led the ancestor Fa Deng to tragedy, Mushu was a Fa family guardian, but since then he’s been demoted to what menial task?
  4. Mulan’s horse, Khan, wants no part of Mushu from the start. So when Mushu has to pretend to be a soldier with a message from the general ordering Mulan’s unit to the fighting, what kind of animal does he ride instead of a horse?
  5. During the song “Honor to Us All,” what four items, symbolic of serenity, balance, beauty and luck does Grandmother Fa give Mulan?
