This morning I was listening to an episode of one of my favorite podcasts, Triviality, and their swing round was movie before-and-afters. Think “Boogie Nights in Rodanthe.” So obviously, I’ve been able to think of nothing else today but movie title mashups. They just keep coming to me!
So hat tip to Mike Casey, their guest on the episode who wrote that round and sparked my trivia-writing brain into creating this quiz.
Each answer is two movies that have a word in common: The last word of the first title is the first word of the second.

- Stoner Seth Rogen reckons with becoming a father after he gets Katherine Heigl pregnant during a one-night stand AND George Clooney jets around the country firing people in a 2009 Oscar Best Picture nominee.
- Martin Scorsese tells the life story of Jake LaMotta in black and white AND baseball groupie Susan Sarandon has to choose between a rookie nicknamed “Nuke” and Kevin Costner.
- D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly become partners on — and off — the ice AND Tom Cruise gets stuck in the “Groundhog Day” loop, only worse, because while Bill Murray learned piano and ice sculpture, Tom Cruise gets murdered by aliens every day.
- Nicolas Cage is an innocent man trapped on a hijacked transit plane with a bunch of rapists and murderers AND an adorable golden retriever plays basketball.
- Jimmy Fallon romances workaholic Drew Barrymore amidst the Boston Red Sox’s curse-breaking season AND a group of college a capella singers recruits rebellious misfit Anna Kendrick.

- John Cusack and David Strathairn are in a lineup of guys who threw a World Series AND Meryl Streep is a baroness who falls hard for Robert Redford, a big-game hunter.
- A coming-of-age story about four friends who set out to see a dead body, based on a novella by Stephen King AND a coming-of-age story about a boy who befriends a girl who ends up dead, based on the debut novel by Jesse Andrews.
